Brandnooz box opening: March 2015

So on Friday we got yet another box with goodies! Again, none of the items is "brand new" as advertised, all the stuff is already available in shops. That doesn't mean it's not worth it though. For example last month we got this mint syrup, local and bio and all the other fashion words written on the label, and the lemonade from it was really delicious. March box contained some magazines. In the one about living we got some ideas suitable for our apartment and some "must have" items, we can't afford. On the other hand, the women magazine was rather disappointing. See, I don't buy these, as they're stupid, but when I do, all I care about is clothes, sex and funny stories. This one had no funny story and very little about sex and clothes. Boring!
As for food, I really like the rapsberry jam. What I find interesting is the whip cream without lactose (sorcery!). Dijon mustard and mayonaise are the two things that have to be in every kitchen and sweets and salted crackers never last long in our home. What I don't like is the chips with chicken flavour, because I've tried it and it tastes weird. Also, Asterix fruit drink is not what I was looking forward to, as we have the 18+ subscription, I would expect to receive more alcoholic beverages, not just beer (which was in two out of four boxes). But it is still nice to get these little surprises every month... It's like getting presents.

One World 2015

I made it this year! I always plan to go see some of the documentaries and art movies, but most years there is not enough time / I'm not in the mood. This year I decided to see three movies from our town's selection: Warriors from the North, Once I Dreamt of Life and Children 404. Truth is I am not a "people person", I love spending time with Ales, books and my family and closest friends (sometimes).  Also I was sort of sick and busy that weekend so what. Anyway my plan didn't work the way I wanted.
On Saturday, after seeing Warriors from the North (documentary about Somali youths born in Scandinavia but fighting for Al-Shabaab - and performing suicide bomb attacks in Somalia) I was kinda depressed and going to the projection of Once I Dreamt of Life (suicide-themed movie) was out of the question. In the end I stayed in the Café MP7 (aka one of the two movie-screening place) to watch No Land's Song, one of the few positive and happy-ending documentaries this year, about a female composer from Iran, organising an all-female concert in Teheran. I had a beer - a new product from Czech brewery Bernard - an Ale (I know, it doesn't soud so special, but Czech is famous for it's Lagers, but we do not have wide selection of other types of beer), 8,2% alcohol, top fermented, super delicious but not suitable for all-night drinking. I had my outfit well planned, unfortunately I didn't take a picture. So all you can see in the picture below (centre of the picture, last one on the left of the row of ladies, glasses and a ponytail) is me watching a movie, yay!

On Sunday I went to see Children 404 with Ales (who spent 16 hours at work the day before). The movie was about life of homosexuals (especially teenagers and young adults) in Russia. In this context I would like to mention an article about UN and Russia, published three days ago. I was havind sore throat and didn't feel like driking beer, so I ordered ginger lemonade. I was offered a choice between Sweppes and Pragomost, and obviously I chose the second option, as it was only 5 CZK more expensive, but no chemicals and local distributed. Unfortunately their website is not translated. Anyway, it was pretty great. I am looking forward to tasting more flavours, maté and rose hip especially.
Before leavind we handed in the leaflets to compete for some interesting stuff. I claimed we are going to win a dinner for two. We did win a road-safety set - reflective slap bracelet, sticker and magnnetic warning triangle. Funny story, I won a set, Ales won a set and two more went to my sister and her boyfriend (there were 8 prices altogether, and price no. 4.-8. was the safety set). Well we won and those bracelet will be perfect for running and cycling. As for the rest, we'll figure it out.

OUTFIT: Spring stream

We got invited for lunch to my parents. And since early morning it was clear that it would be a beautiful spring day, one of the first ones this year. So, after lunch me and Ales went for a walk with my parent's dog. He seemed really happy about it, as he hasn't been out for few days, as my father had a lot of work and mum was sick. He does run in the garden, but that is not enough. He was allowed to run freely but from time to time we had to call him back so other dogs didn't attack him (well, I called him back, Ales doesn't have much experience with dogs and Norbert doesn't obey him), as he is a very... let's say peaceful dog. I didn't choose shooes for a walk though, so when we came back, I had a few blisters. Nevermind, it's Spring!

OUTFIT: Color-blocking

The weather is unsteady these days. When these photos were taken, it was almost Spring, ten degrees, nice and sunny - if it weren't for the wind. Whe it blew, it was suddenly around zero. It's pretty hard to dress up for such weather! Anyway, I put on my new color-block tee and after school went for a sushi dinner with my mum. We went alone, as neither Ales nor my dad were interested in trying it. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I had sushi several times and I was also aware of the fact that a new sushi / chinese/ vietnamese restaurant was opened in Tabor. However it looked like a chinese fast-food from the outside. I've been to a similar bistro in Ceske Budejovice and was quite disappointed afterwards. But this sushi turned out to be delicious! The shrimp nigiri was great and so was tuna maki, but my personal favourite (and also the only new experience for me that day) was the california roll with red caviar. Next time I'm trying the unagi!

OUTFIT: From the Stars

The Spring has come, finally! I was getting tired of all these coats ( I still have some partially Winter outfits for you though) and it was so nice going to work today whit the sun shining! Anyway, yesterday my favourite second-hand had a large sale (it happens every month, they sell everything for like 50¢), which I usually use for buying some sewing material or something for refashioning. This time I was lucky and got this blue jumper - who cares it's supposed to male's and this jacket, which I probably took from someone else. You can tell from the location - if you find some pretty good-looking piece of clothing which is obviously hanging in a wrong section, you've probably came across something that has been hidden there to be bought later in the sales.Too bad I am a very skilled thrifter :D
Si I am now sitting at work, listening to White Lies and looking forward to tomorrow's documentary festival Jeden Svet.

OUTFIT: Quirky bears

Ive been trying my best to look more like a lady these days. Sometimes though I like to be just a girl, I am stil young, you know and even if I weren't, I think I shouldn't give up colourful combinations and funny accessories. Today's outfit includes many design items, some of them purchased during design meetings in Prague or Tabor. My personal favourites are tne shoes - not Converse, as you might have thought, but a Novesta. The main advantage of Novesta is, that the shoes are way better, they last more than just one seasonal Converse (mine are six years old), they have a proper arch support and they cost half the money! You won't find the pair Im wearing in the e-shop, as they were purchased on Prague design meetings when itroducing the brand to Czech market and I got them for the initial price of 400 CZK (like 16 $) and they came in a cotton bag.

OUTFIT: Suns and stripes

I promised to show you the perfect striped tee so this is it. Unfortunately it is hidden under the coat so you just have to believe me if I say it's perfect. Also, this is my first statement necklace. I bought it in Pepco for like 2$, it only had wrong colour - orange. I don't wear orange, it doesn't work with the colour of my hair, so I used a yellow nail polish and it looks just fine. I do love these fruit prints! I've been to Kik recently and fell in love with those pineapple prints and jewelery. In the end I didn't buy any, as the pineapple was in strange yellow-green colour. Well, maybe next time, I still have my blueberries and bananas.

Spring inspiration 2015

Ok so what is in for me this spring? Right now I focus on hats (I do that now, you know!), stripes and flower prints (because they are NEVER out!), brown and navy combination, colour blocks (I especially like the B&W combination), how to style my yet to come almost-chanel espadrilles and nice and bright colours, mostly red, blue and yellow, as the sun is popping out from time to time and it just fills me with energy ( which was indeed needed, as I am getting exhausted from my schedule).

OUTFIT: Blueberry blossom

I bought a lot of stuff over the years. There's this one bag I really love and am glad I got it and it is this Dara Bags blueberry bubble. I got it for my birthday seven years ago (I was asked what I want and this was obviously my choice) and I keep wearing it ever since. Dara Bags did not even have an e-shop back then, only a seller profile on fler.cz (Czech portal for selling arts and crafts and homemade stuff). Now it is quite well known Czech brand and the good thing is thatz not only the bags are of great quality, but the selection is really wide, they are girly or elegant, there is even an option of "designing" the bag according to your tastes. Also they change the sortiment of fabric quite often so you rarely come across another one like yours, even though you will recognize a Dara, when you see it. My blueberry bag has some stitches (as I once tried to fit my netbook in it and the bag didn't seem to like it), but despite that little bag-surgery, it works perfectly.
