OUTFIT: Yee haa!

I went for a glass of wine with my girl friend and I wanted to be noticeable, so I've chosen a country outfit.

Just an ordinary day at work

Some days in the museum are extremely boring. When there is hot outside, people prefer to be sunbathing or swimming in the lake, so not many come to see the undergrounds. And with four guides that means you have nothing to do all day. Well, almost nothing. I finally managed to see the new exhibition and read some notes about the old one. Also I noticed some funny thing in the texts. For example, Prokop Holý is one of the Hussite leaders and his name is translated into English as "Prokop "The Shaven"". That would suggest that he had to shave his head. I do not think that the name implies anything about his hair, I don't agree with translating anybody's name, but when you have to do so, it should be "The Bald" not "The Shaven".

OUTFIT: Can't buy my love

A friend of mine was celebrating his birthday, so I chose my burgundy formal dress and made them more casual with my handmade cropped top (well, I bought a white cropped top, dyed it grey, then bought another top with Beatles motif, but it was almost kid-size, so I cut it and sewed the motif to the dyed cropped top).

Don't worry, I judge you

So, I work in this bookshop (well, more like help, it's my father's and he helps me get through college) and there are number of things that irritates me. Don't get me wrong, I believe I'm a very good shopkeeper. Very nice and kind, always smiling, will climb up the ladder for you a dozen times even if you don't buy anything after all and still smile at you and say good bye etc. Of course, I smile a little more, when you spend some money (or leave a tip for the smiling lady behind the cash-register) but never mind. The important thing is that I judge you. I put you in boxes, I judge your music and book tastes and I admire you or hate you for it (the same thing I would do if I actually knew you), I judge the way you treat your kids, whether you greet me or not... And I now have like a hit parade of "Nope" (which is what I'd love to say every time you do any of these things).

Mighty people vol. 2

I must admit I am a strange type of introvert. I like being alone, I recharge my batteries while reading a good book or watching a movie alone. But I love festivals. The masses of people, the energy flowing in the air... And still you are anonymous, you can go with the crowd or not, no one will notice... Music festivals are a sign of vacation for me. There's one taking place every year on our town's airport: Mighty Sounds. Ska, punk and reggae festival, also rock, indie, techno and other genres are available. You can go see a theatre, try several types of food, you know, normal everyday festival. And I was at work all weekend. And on Monday too. So, no festival for me. But on Sunday I got so bored that I called my Bf we will do the same thing we did last year. This is a guide for those who want to get the festival feeling in few hours. Do not take it literally.

John Fowles and The Collector

So, I am studying English at college and recently we had this book on the list. And As I have no idea how am I gonna do it next year if I want to finish bachelors degree on time, I decided to read some of the books I need for the finals in advance. This one was actually a great choice.
I like the way this book is divided. One part is told by the male character Clegg and the other part by the female, Miranda, his prisoner, which enables you to see both sides of the problem. Some moments make you actually hate Miranda, even though she is the one kidnapped, she is the victim, but you feel sorry for her kidnapper instead. The novel is very disturbing and intense. In the end I decided I never want to read it again. That's what I say every time I read a book that terrifies me.
Truth is, that there was something about the book that really disgusted me, puzzled me, terrified me. And it was the discussion we had about it at school. Teacher asked us who's read it. There were like three of us. Then she wanted to know whether we liked it. And a girl answered that it was similar to Fifty shades of Grey and that is why she liked it. The first think that came to my mind was this:
Then I tried really hard to actually think about what she said. I actually found a few things that connect the two books:
1. there is a girl and a guy.
2. the guy is rich and is a little weird.
3. The guy is misusing the girl (can't find another word, that would fit both cases).
4. The guy fancies the girl.
Well, that's about that. That is literally all they have in common. My mind was going to explode! I believe that the girl read a different book (probably some Fifty shades of other female bullshit novels). The teacher gave her a very puzzled face and replied, that she hasn't read that so she can't agree with her. My faith in humanity and future of reading was restored when I told about it to my friend. She laughed hard, then pulled new Pratchett's book out of her bag and started to read, not minding the lecture.
So, read The collector. Do it, you'll love it. Or hate it. Probably both, but that makes the book even more exceptional.

Highest window of the highest tower

I'm not going to pretend anything. I don't understand fashion a lot. I wear what I like, what suits me (in my opinion), what makes me feel comfortable. All I care about is that the pieces of clothing fit together somehow and that is it. I am not very photogenic, I must say. But whatever. I make mistakes in my English. But I love it, I love all the expressions that can't be translated to my language, sometimes they can't be even explained properly. I want to use those and not look like a freak, that can't speak Czech correctly (I hate using anglicisms in Czech like they are proper words - such as "like", "tweet" "post" and others). And I have a boyfriend. And I understand, that some of you might get bored, I want to talk about him too. Yes, I want to brag about it. Because you know what, love is real. You can deny it, you can hate it, but it will happen to you eventually. If you want to, of course. So, I've started a new section. About love stories. About everyday or exceptional situations in my life and my friends lives. I want to be positive and stay positive. Because that is the best you can do these days. So, today's story is about a princess locked in the highest tower.

Everlasting stripes

Every woman probably knows that stripes (especially sailor stripes) are immortal. Striped shirts and T-shirts have been "in" all the time I can remember and according to pictures so they had been before. But some of you may have read something about the effects stripes may and may not have on your body look. You know what I mean, "horizontal stripes make you fat, diagonal and vertical make you thin". And even though many have tried to forget about that, it still is somewhere in our vicious brains and it emerges every time you choose a striped apparel.

I am a vegetarian... except for occasional steaks

To be honest, I'm not. I just wanted to say I understand you guys. A little. I mean, there are many good reasons for not eating meat. You don't like the taste of it, you don't like the way animals are treated, you think you are healthier without it... I get it. I am just not going to join you. And here's why.
It is OK to eat meat. What is not OK is animal treatment. And the fact that we produce more that we can use, so we throw away tons of food every single day. Not just meat. It's not only lives of animals that come to waste, it's other things. That is not right.

Fifty shades of whaa...?!

My first book review would be about 50 shades of Grey. I 've decided so for several reasons. Firstly, it is quite new and popular amongst women, it's a little controversial (well, a lot controversial for a mainstream) and I'd had mixed feelings about it before I even read it. In the end I came to conclusion that all women should read it. And then probably throw it away as a complete trash. There is a lot, a LOT of wrong in this book.
So let's start with the main character, Anastasia, shall we? She obviously has a eating disorder. And in this world, that is not a good example for young women. It's ok to be thin, I have no problem with that, but it is NOT OK to eat only one apple in a day and nothing else! The main protagonist is always someone we envy. It's fine to envy nice hair, great looks, sex appeal etc. Not eating is not ok, did I mention that?
Next, the sex thing. I must admit, that it turned me on a little. Sometimes. But most of the sex scenes made me laugh hard! Christian is actually a cat, because otherwise I cannot explain all the sounds he makes. And the "Come for me" thing? Absolutely hilarious. Also a bit disgusting. "And my body followed his command" - I mean, what are you, Anastasia? A dog? Sex doesn't work that way. It just doesn't. And neither do most women. This might make you feel, that it is normal for a woman to come everytime she is "commanded". Or f**ked. Well, no. Most women are quite delicate. And difficult. So men should try more, women should tell them what they like and most importantly - loose themselves. Relax a bit. And not worry about the simple orgasms most female character in books and movies have. Real women don't (well, some do, you are lucky ladies).
And as for the S-M issue. Triple NO. First, you don't agree to S-M play when you had no sex yet, no experiences and hate pain. And if you are offered so, you run. Or call a police. Or both. You definitely do not sign a contract about leting some guy beat the hell out of you. I know nothing about the community of people interested in BDSM, but I know something about bringing a little pain and dominance into your sex life. And the fact, that many women after reading the book bought their whips and wanted to get slapped by their SO and then found out, that it hurts (surprise, surprise!), really puzzles me. And some got angry because the guy refused to play this game. Well, that guy was quite wise, really.

I believe, that 50 shades are readable. Good book for a vacation, to get turned on. But do not try the stuff advertised in it at home. And finally, do not force your boyfriend to read it (a friend of mine did, they did not last long, as she loved it and he hated it), keep it for yourself. In some cases, do not even tell him you are reading it. Have fun...

P.S. - I wonder what they're gonna do about the movie... I might go and see it, just out of curiosity, secretly in disguise, of course :-)

Introduction

Hi there, blogging world. This is kind of new to me so please, be nice. Well, I already have one blog, Czech one, but sometimes I feel urge to write in English and well, my current blog is not very suitable for that, so here I am. And what is this gonna be about? Well, books and stuff related to books, I hope. I am quite a reader, I'd say. Even though my most favourite genre is fantasy and science fiction, I've read lots of novels, dramas, poetry. . . And I hope that I might make you interested in some good book.
And looks. Oh yes, recently I found out I was a woman (not that I was not aware of that before, but I never cared about that much) and I wanted to look just awesome. That had something to do with me moving out of my parents' house. To be honest, my mother is such a town fashion icon and so are my younger sisters and I was... Well, trying to look like my mom (even though she is size 36 and I am 40) and not to behave like my sisters (who are lazy as hell and still super hot and skinny, while I work my ass out not to gain weight all the time). Now as I don't live under that influence anymore, I finally managed to create my own style, appropriate for my bodytype and personality. And I want to share it, share the fact, that I feel confident (finally!) and good-looking - I know it is a little bit silly and narcissistic but, you know, most blogs are about bragging (about looks, knowledge, experiences) so what.
I want to give you something great to read and some inspiration of what to wear when you are short and not exactly a supermodel. I want you to know that you can make it. You can be yourself, you can look great, feel great and not care about other people's opinion more than necessary. So welcome. I hope you'll like it.

P.S.- Please excuse the mistakes I make. After all, I am a foreigner and I'm working on my English, really.

Anna
